How to Install Windows 11 on Unsupported PCs

Microsoft officially requires for Windows 11:

  • TPM 2.0
  • Secure Boot
  • Intel 8th Gen / AMD Zen 2 or newer CPU

But what if your PC doesn't meet these requirements? Here are 3 working methods to install Windows 11 on older hardware.

Preparation

Before starting:

  1. Backup your data (external drive or cloud)
  2. Download Windows 11 ISO (official Microsoft site)
  3. Prepare USB flash drive (8GB+) for bootable media

Method 1: Bypass TPM/Secure Boot (USB Installation)

Step 1: Create Bootable USB

  1. Download Rufus
  2. Select Windows 11 ISO
  3. Under "Image options":
    • Enable "Extended Windows 11 installation"
    • Check "Disable TPM/Secure Boot checks"
  4. Click "Start" and wait

Step 2: Install Windows 11

  1. Restart PC and enter BIOS/UEFI (F2/DEL/ESC key)
  2. Disable:
    • Secure Boot
    • TPM Check
  3. Boot from USB and install normally

Method 2: Registry Edit (For Windows 10 Upgrades)

Step 1: Open Registry Editor

  1. Press Win + R, type regedit
  2. Navigate to:
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup

Step 2: Create Bypass Keys

  1. Right-click → New → DWORD (32-bit)
  2. Add two values:
    • AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU = 1
    • BypassTPMCheck = 1
  3. Reboot your PC

Step 3: Start Upgrade

  1. Go to Settings → Update & Security
  2. Use Media Creation Tool if upgrade isn't offered
  3. Installation will begin without compatibility checks

Method 3: Modified ISO (For Very Old PCs)

Step 1: Extract ISO

  1. Use UltraISO or PowerISO
  2. Extract files to folder (e.g., C:\Win11)

Step 2: Modify Installer

  1. Delete/rename appraiserres.dll in sources folder
    → This disables compatibility checks
  2. Rebuild ISO using UltraISO

Step 3: Install

  1. Create bootable USB with modified ISO
  2. Install Windows 11

Important Notes

  1. Some features won't work (e.g., Windows Hello without TPM)
  2. No update guarantees (Microsoft may block such systems)
  3. Possible errors on very old CPUs (pre-2015)

Alternative: Windows 10 + Windows 11 Theme

If methods fail:

  • Keep Windows 10 (supported until 2025)
  • Install classic Start menu (e.g., via StartAllBack)
  • Apply Windows 11 wallpapers/themes

Conclusion

You can install Windows 11 on old PCs, but:

  • Best method → Rufus with checks disabled
  • Without TPM/Secure Boot → some features missing
  • Last resort → Windows 10 with visual tweaks
